All of Hilton Head Island's beach is public, from the ocean to the high water mark. However, access to the beach in many places may be private (such as private communities or plantations). The Town of Hilton Head Island provides public access at 7 different locations. We have ridden bicycles on island beaches many times for fun and exercise! The overall average ocean temperature on the island's beaches is 69 degrees (summertime is about 84 degrees).
